Welcome to FOSS
Friends of SureStart (FOSS) began as a small social and fundraising group back in 2003. Our aim was to raise money to enable the group to organise fun activities and events that the whole family could participate in. This included raffles, craft fayres, face painting, quiz nights and carnival floats.
In 2005 FOSS became a constituted group, which gave us the opportunity to apply for funding from external organisations. In the following year we were successful in securing £5000 from the Sports Relief Fund.
The Friends Of SureStart committee is elected annually and is open to parents and individuals keen to promote and deliver activities that encourage community involvement and family fun. With the support from volunteers they continue to successfully raise money by face painting at different events. Over the years this has enabled the committee to pay for qualified instructors to supervise sports activities in the summer programmes, sponsor a coach to take families with pre-school children to see ‘The tiger that came to tea’ as well as organise Quiz Nights, a Family Disco, Barn Dance and a summer Art Exhibition.
Last year (2010) the committee decided to set themselves a target of raising £1000 to purchase equipment and resources for the new Sensory room for children with additional needs which has been set up in Sidley Community Centre.
